As bitcoin continues to increase in value, so does the sophistication of attacks targeting bitcoin users. At Unchained, we recognize the need for enhanced security measures to combat these threats. Today we’re introducing the ability to confirm bitcoin deposit addresses via email. This builds on the work we've done to allow clients to confirm bitcoin addresses on hardware wallets.
Here’s how confirm via email works:
The address displayed by your browser is sent to Unchained for verification
Unchained checks the expected address, and if it matches, sends an email confirming the match
If the address in the browser does not match, Unchained sends an alert email letting you know your computer may be infected with malware
While the new email confirmation feature provides an additional layer of security by allowing Unchained to certify the displayed address, it does not guarantee that you have direct control over the keys associated with that address. You have to confirm your addresses with your Trezor, Ledger, or Coldcard to ensure you have direct control.
As threats to bitcoin holders evolve, so must our strategies to combat them. Stay vigilant, and remember: your security is in your hands.
